Why this place matters
Historic England dates the mill to 1868 and names John Hill of Ashford as its builder. A white weatherboarded smock rises above a substantial brick base, with a platform around it and an associated house at ground level.
The building offers a useful way to read the relationship between a mill’s working tower and its lower service spaces. A windmill was a workplace with handling, storage and domestic needs, rather than a freestanding decorative landmark.
