The story of this place
The canal and Store Street do not meet at a right angle. The aqueduct’s builders therefore used an angled arch, often called a skew arch, to carry the waterway across the road.
Historic England dates the sandstone structure to about 1794–1799 and records a length of roughly 70 metres. It is listed at Grade II*. The shape of the crossing reflects the practical difficulty of fitting two routes together in a growing city.

What you can see
The outline of the arch and the supports beside it can be seen from a safe position on the public pavement. The canal towpath gives another view from above.
Canal & River Trust includes the aqueduct in a published Manchester walk. Follow that route and any current diversions. We have not checked the surface or confirmed step-free access. Keep clear of the road, water edges and maintenance features while looking at the structure.
