The recorded history
Brandsby opened in June 1964 and reported to the Royal Observer Corps headquarters at York until September 1991. Historic England identifies a standard buried concrete monitoring post, with an earth covering and surviving fixtures. Its later restoration is described in the listing; that historical account does not establish an opening programme today. The post’s importance lies partly in its documented relationship with York, rather than in size or architectural display.

The recorded surface fittings served instruments; the working room was below ground. This makes the site useful for understanding how apparently minor structures belonged to a much larger information network.
